Description
From the Heritage auction on 08/26/14, lot #8043, where it was housed in an NGC Fine details holder and described as: “1787 COPPER New Jersey Copper, Camel Head -- Scratches -- NGC Details. Fine. Maris 56-n, W-5310, R.1. This piece was struck over an evasion British half penny dated 1778, with the date clearly visible along the obverse margin near 9 o'clock. Portions of the designs from that undertype remain visible on both sides. Intermingled shades of brown, pale yellow-gold, and copper appear on this example of the popular Camel Head variety. Listed on page 70 of the 2014 Guide Book. From The Old New England Collection.” The coin realized $558.13 in the Heritage sale; I purchased this coin from Leonard Massa as one of his duplicates. The coin is now raw as seen in my photos.
