| 1795 C6a Liberty Cap Half Cent, Plain Edge No Pole, R2. This was lot #142 in the Goldberg's Davy auction on 09/04/11, where it realized $345. The coin itself is a raw VG7 with smooth surfaces and a dull dent on the obverse, EAC net AG3 (?). The real appeal of this coin is that it is a major mint error, being struck OFF-CENTER toward obverse K9. The color is a nice medium brown, and the date is faint but fully visible. Basically, this coin is priced as a type coin with no premium for the error, and although errors seem to be common in "Davy" auctions, they are still quite rare out in the wild! |
