 Description
1807 C1 Draped Bust half cent, R1. This is the front-line example for the Furnace Run PCGS Registry Set of US half cents from 1793 to 1857 by Cohen Variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as EF45, and this coin is absolutely GORGEOUS! I think the die state fooled PCGS: this is actually a nearly-choice AU58 with the most incredible glossy peanut butter tan brown that you can imagine. I say "nearly-choice" because a glass shows some incredibly micro hairlines on the portrait, so fine that you might not even see them clearly in the photos. Otherwise this coin would be super-choice, and even so, I certainly consider it AU58 net AU50+ and PLUS because the eye appeal is so incredible. Definitely a very late die state: M3.0 with dentilation gone and mushy fields, and reverse legend tops very shallow. I hope my photos convey how beautiful this coin is in person! AND PS: if you are looking for a sharp early die state with denticles, please check out the EDS PCGS VF20 CAC that we have for sale on the Duplicates page! Ex-Ebay 2011; Furnace Run Collection. Without exception, my coins are sharper and more attractive in hand than in my photos. So if you like the photos, you will LOVE the coin!
