1818 N6 R1 Coronet Large Cent PCGS AU55 ex-Twin Leaf & Wachtel

From the Early Cents Auction sale of the Dr. Thomas Wachtel collection, sold on 04/29/23 as lot #78, and described as: “1818 N-6 R1 PCGS graded AU55. Lustrous tan and light brown except for a doughnut-shaped spot of darker olive brown toning on the jaw. Satiny mint frost covers the fields and protected areas on both sides and this cent has mint state eye appeal, but there is a hint of friction on the highest points of the portrait. M-LDS with the usual die crack that meanders through much of the legend outside the wreath. In addition there are dull but clearly visible lapping lines through CA in AMERICA. Strike doubling shows in several places on the obverse including the nostrils, jaw, truncation, and many of the stars (a result of die shift or bounce). A sharply struck cent with full hair lines on the forehead. Graded MS60 by Noyes, his photo #24345. Our grade is net AU55. Comes with a nice provenance that includes several prominent collectors of large cents. The attribution and Twin Leaf Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label.
