1834 N5 Coronet Large Cent, Large 8 Large Stars Medium Letters, R5. YES, this is the rarest 1834 Redbook variety! This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as AU53, and CAC-certified as CHOICE for the assigned grade. This coin was lot #3081 in the 08/02/12 Heritage auction where it sold for $5,581.25 over 5 years ago. The coin is gorgeous with sharp details. There are really no defects to speak of, so the only thing I can point out is some weakness on some of the stars. In the Heritage auction, this coin was listed as EAC EF45 and I agree with that assessment. That should put this coin in the bottom half of the condition census, somewhere around CC6-8. This coin compares VERY favorably to the Gene Heard AU58 CAC that just sold for $11,750 - I actually like this coin better because it does not have the obverse marks that the Heard coin exhibits. Either way, this is a very high grade example of the rarest middle date Redbook variety. Without exception, my coins are sharper and more attractive in hand than in my photos. So if you like the photos, you will LOVE the coin!
