1837 N-5 Coronet Large Cent, Plain Cord with Small Letters, PCGS MS65+RB CAC, R2. From Legend Rare Coin’s Regency Auction #32 on 05/16/19, where this example was lot #246 and described as: “Attention Large Cent collectors! If you seek the highest graded Guide Book varieties, take a look at this 1837 Small Letters! This is the sole finest RB graded at PCGS, the next highest graded is MS64+ RB. Not only did PCGS and CAC agree this is the finest graded, but it is very pretty as well! The obverse is awash in a warm, glowing mint red that mellows to a rose and violet brown as you rotate the lustrous surfaces in a light. Traces of rose can be seen in the reverse legends, blending to steely-blue, olive-tan, and soft brown patina. A neat die state with an arching die crack on the obverse. Showing the typical strike, with bold details, in the centers, but some minor weakness in the stars. A few tiny flecks can be seen under close scrutiny with a strong glass, none of which are distracting. The eye appeal is excellent, and sure to delight any advanced E.A.C. collector. PCGS 1, NGC 0, CAC 2 (clearly this coin is counted twice). The closest APR is for a MS64 RB that brought $4,348 in June 2015. In 64+ RB, the current Collector's Universe value (the highest grade listed), is $6,000. Bound for a great type set or collection of Large cents! Cert. Number 37997230. PCGS # 1733.” The coin sold for $8,519 in that auction from 2019 to an unknown buyer; later purchased from Sarasota Rare Coins. PCGS Price Guide value is $9,000 for a NON-CAC coin, so we are offering this CAC-example at $10,500. This is the finest-graded RB example at PCGS, AND the highest-certified example at CAC. Very likely CC1 overall? PCGS certification# 1733.65+/37997230.
