1839 N-9 Coronet Large Cent, Silly Head, PCGS MS66BN CAC, R2.  From the Heritage auction of 04/22/21, lot #3175, where it was described as: “1839 N-9 Cent, MS66 Brown.  Silly Head.  1839 1C Silly Head, N-9, R.2, MS66 Brown PCGS. CAC. A diagonal die crack from the L in LIBERTY down across the hair curls and neck to the lower curls distinguishes the N-9 die marriage from the other Silly Head variety, N-4. This is an early die state before that crack meets another die crack between Stars 5 and 6. Short die scratches left of Star 7 are always present. While designated Brown, this Premium Gem exhibits considerable mint red intermixed with lustrous chocolate-brown on both sides. A delightful, highly eye appealing example. Our EAC grade MS63. Population: 3 in 66 Brown, 1 finer (3/21).”  This coin sold for $10,800 in that sale as PCGS MS66BN CAC, BUT the certification number was 1748.66/38001695.  Apparently somebody tried for a regrade, because now the coin has a new certification# as 1748.66/43031527, yet it is still graded PCGS MS66BN CAC.  “Silly Head” is listed on the PCGS label but the N-9 attribution is NOT.  Purchased from Harry Laibstain.  PCGS Price Guide for a non-CAC coin is $14,750, so we are offering this CAC example at just $15,500.  PCGS certification# 1748.66/43031527.
