1776 Machin's Mills 1/2p Vlack 6-76A Large Date W7790 R4+ PCGS VG8 Long Island Collection

From the Earlycoppercoins PCGS Registry Set.  Prior pedigree from the Heritage sale of the Long Island Collection, sold on 04/18/22 as lot #44300 and sold for the bargain price of just $516 to CVM.  Although graded by NGC as VG8, I think the coin is massively under-graded: I think it’s at least F12, and the surfaces are much smoother and more attractive in hand than the Heritage auction photos suggest.  I purchased this coin from CVM on 03/01/25 for a significantly higher price that reflects the true grade and condition of this nice low-grade example.  One of the key dates to this fascinating series – buy the book!  Crossed over from NGC VG8 to PCGS VG8, #826951.8/54809376 "Machin's, Vlack 6-76A" and STILL under-graded!  The NGC Long Island insert remains with the coin.  This coin was part of my collection until I was able to upgrade to Syd Martin's PCGS VF30 late die state example.  Condition wise, this PCGS VG8 is WAY above average, and will serve as a fantastic example for this key date, not only to this series, but to our country!  I purchased the coin for $750 and then sent it to PCGS, so unfortunately, the bottom dollar on this beauty is $1000 shipped - and worth every halfpenny!
