1786 Connecticut 1/2p M5.4-O.1 Mailed Bust Left PCGS AU55 W2590 R2

From the Earlycoppercoins PCGS Registry Set.  Prior pedigree from the Stacks Bower’s November 2024 Showcase Auction, lot #1220, where it was described as: “1786 Connecticut Copper. Miller 5.4-O.1, W-2590. Rarity-2. Mailed Bust Left. AU-55 (PCGS).  Warm chestnut-brown patina with slightly deeper olive-copper engaging the lower half of the obverse. The planchet is round and choice apart from isolated internal flaws at lower right obverse, on the effigy's cheek, and at upper right reverse, the last obscuring much of the letter E in ET. Obverse impression off center to 12 o'clock, affecting only the denticulation, reverse similarly aligned to 6 o'clock with the lower border into the bottoms of the date digits. Boldly defined overall, nonetheless, with nice gloss to surfaces that reveal no post-production blemishes of note.  Provenance: From the Ross Family Collection. Earlier from McCawley and Grellman's Sixth Annual C4 Convention sale, November 2000, lot 126.”  The coin realized $1,320 in that auction, then re-appeared a few months later at Heritage, where it sold for $1,620 as lot #50031 on 04/07/25 to CVM.  I purchased the coin from CVM on 06/27/25.  Unfortunately, NONE of the lot tags, envelopes, or other pedigree items remain with the coin.  PCGS certification# 331.55/50449720 with “Mailed Bust Left” on the label.
