1786 Connecticut copper, M5.3-N, W2575, Hercules Head, R3. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as VG8, and it's a very nice example of this tough Redbook variety. The obverse is much sharper than VG8, with excellent chocolate glossy brown color and bold definition. The reverse is weaker, but not by wear: this is a late die state example with a buckled reverse. As such, the date on this coin is NOT visible. Most of these seem to be LDS examples and I have handled only a few EDS examples with bold dates, although I DO have an excellent EDS example for sale right now that is NGC F15 from the Long Island collection (see stock# 12975). This is a very nice low-grade example of this major Redbook variety, and the "Hercules Head" attribution is listed on the PCGS gold shield label.
