1786 New Jersey 1/2p, M12-G, W4790, NO Coulter, R4. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as VG8, and if I did not already have a PCGS F15 in my collection, I would be thrilled to own this example! Very nice cameo color with dark chocolate brown fields and peanut butter tan brown highpoints. The details look closer to F12 to my eye, with everything relatively strong and even on both sides of the coin, including a bold date. A glass reveals some signs of circulation but for a coin that is almost 250 years old, this VG8 is very attractive. From the Furnace Run collection, purchased from CVM for $2000 back in 2015 as NGC VG8. The coin is now in a new Secure Shield PCGS holder with "Maris 12-G Shaggy Mane" and variety #767871 listed on the label. Overall a lovely example of this major Redbook variety.
