1786 New Jersey copper 1/2p M14-J W4810 R1 Narrow Shield PCGS AU53 James E. Blake

From the Heritage sale of the James E. Blake collection on 09/05/23, where this was lot #93111 and described as: “1786 New Jersey Copper, AU53.  Maris 14-J, Straight Plow Beam.  1786 New Jersey Copper, Straight Plow Beam, M. 14-J, W-4810, R.1, AU53 PCGS. A charming first-year New Jersey type coin. Struck somewhat off-center toward 1:30, but the date is complete, and surface imperfections are minimal. Toned tan-brown with hints of steel-gray in protected regions. Designated as "Narrow Shield" by PCGS, corresponding to the Guide Book nomenclature then in use at the time of its certification. Listed on page 69 of the 2024 Guide Book.  From The James E. Blake Collection of United States Colonial Coins & Tokens.”  This coin realized $2,160 in that auction, with a prior pedigree to the Stacks auction of 08/20/19, where this coin was lot #496 and sold for $2,640.  I value this beauty at $3,000.
