Massachusetts Copper Half Cent, R4-B, W5930, R5. This coin has been authenticated and graded
by SEGS as AU50 Light Porosity/Corrosion.
Really a tough coin to evaluate, because it's certainly AU50+ and
there is not really any "corrosion." Instead I see some darker maroon toning on
each side that appears to be "IN" the planchet as-struck as opposed
to corrosion that hit the coin after it was made. The color is a glossy steel brown with
hints of sea green and the mentioned maroon, and overall the eye appeal is
VERY nice. Definitely a coin that
should be broken out of the SEGS holder and enjoyed for it's inherent
beauty. And I think most people, if
viewing the coin as a raw example for the first time, would even be tempted
to call this a Choice AU. Hope my
description makes sense - focus more on the coin and less on the label and
you will see what I am trying to describe!
