Description
1787 New Jersey copper 1/2p, M56-n, W5310, Camel Head, R1. Yet another cool coin! Very pretty VF20 with original medium brown color and average surfaces. That color is even and original, and the surfaces retain a bit of gloss. Quite an interesting example, being struck over a Nova Constellatio. The undertype in plainly visible on the right border of both sides, and even stronger across the shield on the reverse. I have not attempted to identify the variety of the host coin, but feel invited to take that challenge! Not sure how many of these are known to be struck over Nova Constellatio's, but this is the only one I have handled and it's a nice one. From the Furnace Run collection, purchased on eBay in 2018.
