1787 New Jersey 1/2p, M54-k, W5295, Serpent Head, R3. Authenticated and graded by PCGS as VF25 in an older blue-label-non-Edgeview holder. I think this one is actually net-graded, because the sharpness approaches EF40, especially in the horse's definition and with every line clearly defined on the shield. The surfaces are a semi-glossy rich dark chocolate brown, with a half-dozen tiny nicks on each side, and I think those tiny nicks resulted in the net grade to VF25. Regardless, this is a very pleasing example, and one that is evenly-struck since most of these tend to be extremely weak on the left side of the obverse. This coin came from my personal collection: I was recently fortunate enough to upgrade to the EPU3 PCGS AU53. But this example should still be a great upgrade for lots of collections. Purchased from Coast Coin 06/14/23.
