From the Stacks sale of the Dr. Gordon Shaw collection, sold on 03/29/17 lot #360 where it was described as: "1788 New Jersey Copper. Maris 75-bb, W-5520. Rarity-4. Horse's Head Right, Running Fox Before Legend. VF-25 (PCGS). 149.6 grains. Dark brown, glossy, and slightly porous, with some old marks and texture introduced by fine scratches in the upper left quadrant of the obverse. Well and sharply struck on the usual dumpy flan which was not broad enough to accommodate any of the border denticles. The all important running fox is faint but visible at lower reverse on this coin struck from both obverse and reverse Die State 2. A tiny planchet clip is most visible from the reverse at the 5:30 position. As the Maris 75-bb is not rare, it is a fine choice for the collector wanting a modest example of the Running Fox type. Provenance: From the Dr. Gordon Shaw Collection. Earlier ex Early American Numismatics Mail Bid Sale, May 1991, lot 90." CVM to SAY on 11/18/22; YOUR NAME HERE!
