1794 S-34 R5+ Liberty Cap Large Cent Head of 1794 Noyes VF20 net VG7 New Cumberland Collection

NCC-038: 1794 S-34 Liberty Cap, Head of 1794, R5+ Noyes #36878 VF20 net VG7.  This is a well-known example, recorded in Numistudy V6 as Noyes #36878, where it is graded VF20 net VG7 Minus and tied for CC10-13 out of just 35 recorded examples.  Easily VF20 details on each side, with matte surfaces that show minor roughness that is a little stronger on the obverse.  The fields are dark chocolate brown while the highpoints are golden brass, giving the coin an attractive cameo to help distract from the granular surfaces.  The obverse is decent, but the reverse is clearly the better side here.  This is an early die state example without the rim break cud that develops later above the cap.  Numistudy pedigrees this coin to JRM; Superior 02/98:809:G5:$770; Christopher Young; from there it went through D&S Coins into the New Cumberland Collection on 03/12/98.
