1794 S-52 R6 Liberty Cap Large Cent Head of 1794 PCGS Fine New Cumberland Collection

NCC-056: 1794 S-52 Liberty Cap, Head of 1794, R6, PCGS Fine Details, EAC VG7.  PCGS says Fine Details Edge Repaired, and a very pretty example of this tough variety.  A well-known example whose pedigree includes Jules Reiver, and recorded in Numistudy V6 as #26849 as VG7 net VG7 Average and CC15.  Glossy tan brown color and sharp details, other than the right side of the reverse which is unevenly struck.  Thick meaty planchet with sharp rims and edge lettering.  Not sure about the “Edge Repair” because Numistudy does not mention anything and does not net-grade this coin, so perhaps examination of my photos will suggest something?  Looking through the first 14 coins in Numistudy, there are just a few with as nice color and eye appeal as this example, which is why this beauty brought $14,950 back in the 2006 Reiver auction.  I believe the wonderful color and eye appeal are what commanded that strong price back in 2006, but in the current market and holder, this beauty is priced at just a fraction of that amount here.  PCGS Fine Detail Edge Repaired S-52 Coquette New Cumberland Collection #35618.98/47951243.  Ex-R.T.
