1794 S-53 R6 Liberty Cap Large Cent Head of 1794 Noyes F12 net G5 New Cumberland Collection

NCC-057: 1794 S-53 Liberty Cap, Head of 1794, R6, Noyes #61010 F12 net G5+.  Listed in Numistudy V6 as #61010, graded F12 net G5 Scudzy and tied for CC14-16.  I agree with F12 net G5, but sorry, Scudzy is way too harsh for this one.  The coin has an attractive glossy medium brown color, with very minor underlying surface roughness.  Additionally, there are some dull scuffs hidden within the portrait, but other than that, this one is very decent.  The color and eye appeal are positive, and the details are strong on each side.  Numistudy lists the pedigree as: ICU; Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth; Perdue; Markowitz.  The SKE envelope remains with the coin as F12 net VG7 Minus and offered at $10,500.  I suspect that SKE got the coin back from either Purdue or Markowitz, and then it ultimately ended up in the New Cumberland Collection from D&S Coins via SKE on 10/14/10 at $9,000.  My EAC grade is F12 net G5+ and Minus NOT Scudzy.  Ex-D&S Coins 02/17/93.
