1796 S-85 R5- Liberty Cap Large Cent VF20 net F12 New Cumberland Collection

NCC-090: 1796 S-85 Liberty Cap, R5-, EAC VF20+ net F12.  Sharp details, at least VF20 and evenly matched on each side. The color is an attractive dark chocolate brown with some slightly darker toning within the crevices.  Unfortunately, the obverse exhibits myriad shallow hairlines, the worst of which are congregated around the date.  Fortunately, the reverse escaped the manmade damage and is simply lovely on its own merits.  Remember that my photos are quite large, so you should know that when you pull this coin out of the flip, your first impression is going to be a surprising “WOW what a pretty coin.”  Sure, inspection with a glass makes the scratches appear, but the arm’s length eye appeal is quite positive.  See for yourself!  My EAC grade is VF20+ net F12.  Ex-D&S Coins 04/03/92.
