1798 S159 Draped Bust Large Cent, Style 1 Hair, R3. This is a glossy tan brown that is very attractive. Additionally, I love the vertical die cracks behind the hair on the obverse, which sure makes it easy to confirm this variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by Noyes in the Numistudy condition census as #31986, where Bill calls it F15 net VG10 and Average-. No disrespect to Bill, but I don't see that many deductions on this coin, and frankly the eye appeal at least to my eyes is PLUS. And I think most of the impressive list of former owners would agree with me, since this example was certainly nice enough to include in some important prior collections: French:1929:202:$10; George Ramont; Fred Borcherdt; C. Douglas Smith; George Ewing; EAC 1994:236:F12:$600; Tom Evert 06/04/98. Take a look at the photos and make your own assessment, but I am rolling with F12 and Average or better.
