Description
1804 C-9 Draped Bust Half Cent, Crosslet 4 with Stems, R2+. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as VF30 "Dbl Strk-1st Strike O/C, Crosslet 4, Stems" in an older, blue-label, non-Edgeview holder. This is a very solid example for the grade, and although there is some green oxidation that is visible in my photos, you don't really see that in hand. LDS, Manley 5.0 with a strong obverse rim break at above RTY. The double-struck feature is not bold: you can see evidence of a second bust tip at obverse K7, and the rest of the undertype is above UNITED-ST on the reverse rim. My consignor purchased this coin for $1,600 in 2009 on eBay, but I think that's too much so I am offering this now at $999 less your discount. Certainly a coin that should be broken out, brushed to remove the surface oxidation, and carefully studied. PCGS certification# E1069.30/13699836. C-1 Classic Head Half Cent, 13 Stars Obverse, R1. Authenticated and graded by PCGS as AU58, and that's an accurate assessment. Almost no trace of wear, but the coin has oxidized in an older, blue-label, non-Edgeview PCGS holder so the luster is somewhat subdued. But you can see that it's clearly there, and I am certain that this coin would liven up dramatically if the oxidation was brushed away with CARE or Blue Ribbon. Soft lustrous golden chestnut brown with some spots of darker chocolate brown toning. Overall, this is a very sharp and attractive example, and that AU58 grade is quite desirable to most collectors. PCGS certification# 1147.58/16318064. A duplicate from the Furnace Run Collection.
