1823/2 N-1 Coronet Large Cent, Overdate, PCGS AU50, R2

1823/2 N-1 Coronet Large Cent, Overdate, PCGS AU50, R2.  Purchased raw from John Dabbert at EAC 2024 Indianapolis on 05/17/24 as my stock #13320.  Now authenticated and graded by PCGS as AU50, with “Newcomb 1” listed on the PCGS label.  Gorgeous glossy peanut butter tan brown color with glimpses of underlying mint luster, especially in front of the face and around the reverse devices.  However, I don’t think there is enough luster to be fully considered as AU50 by EAC standards, so my EAC grade is EF45+ net EF40+ for some scattered tiny nicks and a couple of small patches of maroon patina behind the lower hair curls on the obverse and around the O in ONE on the reverse.  Well-centered with “PLUS” eye appeal although this coin did not sticker at CAC, most certainly due to those maroon toning spots.  The overdate feature is bold to the naked eye, and this is an extremely pretty and relatively high-grade example for this variety.  PCGS certification# 37670.50/49798414.
