Description
1837 N-7 Coronet Large Cent, Plain Cord with Medium Letters, PCGS MS65BN CAC, R1. From the Heritage Auction on 01/16/22, lot #3202 and described as: “1837 1C Plain Cords, Medium Letters, N-7, N-8, R.1, MS65 Brown PCGS. CAC. Two Newcomb numbers are recognized today as die states from a single die pair. N-8 is the early die state and N-7 is the late die state, but both are from the same pair of dies, thus they are the same variety. Neither die was used for any other variety, and all known examples have a die crack through STATES OF. This lovely chocolate-brown Gem has full cartwheel luster and splashes of original red mint color in the protected areas. A lovely example. Our EAC grade MS63.” The coin realized $2,400 in that auction, and the current PCGS Price Guide is $2,700 for a non-CAC coin. Now offered here as a CAC example for just $2,950. “Medium Letters” is listed on the PCGS label, but the N-7 attribution is NOT. PCGS certification# 1735.65/43031543.
