Large cents - my favorites! This fascinating series has probably been avidly collected longer than any other! Born in 1793 and immediately a source of controversy, the "Big Pennies" have been thru several redesigns and resizes, including no less than 3 designs in their first year. The big, thick, fat-planchet early dates are my favorites, but you will find enthusiasts for all three of the subgroups: 1793-1814 early dates; 1816-1839 middle dates; and 1839-1857 late dates. With a myriad of types, dates, varieties, and die states, there is an unlimited number of ways to collect these, and if you are like me, you might even change your collecting goals a few times along the way!
